Truckers praise Sen. McCaskill’s action on 'hot fuel'

(Aug.  3, 2007 -- Grain Valley, MO) – The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) has long known that consumers may not be getting their money’s worth at the pump due to the effects of “hot fuel.” Today, the Association announces full support of the efforts of Sen. Claire McCaskill, (D-Mo.), for introducing a bill requiring automatic temperature compensation at retail fuel pumps as a solution to the problem.

“The senator deserves high marks for standing up for consumers and small businesses, especially truckers who use large quantities of fuel for their businesses,” said OOIDA Executive Vice President Todd Spencer.

According to a release sent today by Sen. McCaskill’s office, the bill is called F.A.I.R. (Future Accountability In Retail) Fuel Act and requires the installation of automatic temperature compensating equipment in all retail gas station pumps within six years to adjust the price of gas as it expands due to warmer temperatures. In addition, the F.A.I.R. Fuel Act would offer assistance for retailers to comply.

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) is the national trade association representing the interests of small-business trucking professionals and professional truck drivers. OOIDA was established in 1973 and is headquartered in the greater Kansas City, MO, area. The Association currently has more than 154,000 members from all 50 states and Canada.
